You may have outgrown your sideboard with a collection of fancy china from your last business trip to Beijing. If you have some exquisite china you can't stand having stored away behind the cupboard door, then perhaps a sideboard with a display is your next furniture purchasing decision.
A display can be part of a low sideboard, with an open or glass front cupboard, or it can sit above the sideboard providing glass fronted cupboards for your display as well as the covered cupnboards or drawers below.
It makes sense first to determine if you have enough room in your dining room to fit your new sideboard with cupboard display. Measure the walls, measure the ceiling height, measure the amount of foot traffic you will need. Make sure you will have enough room for your guests to get in and out of their dining room table seats. Sideboards come in many shapes and sizes but with some savvy shopping you can find many styles to choose from.
You will then want to take a look around your dining room for elements of style that you may want to compliment. Does your dining room furniture have round edges or curved edges? What color do you want your new sideboard with a display to be, and does this color fit in with the rest of your dining room furniture? Will your guests be able to see your new china being displayed through a fancy table setting?
Keep in mind visibility as a factor, maybe you've always had your
sideboard by the window, but now you want to have a display and you don't want to block the window, and may want to display your cupboard with a display where it can be seen from other rooms in the house if you have an open floor plan. Of course if you are replacing a low sideboard with a high sideboard you may need to position it in a different part of the room, so think about the dining room as a whole.
When shopping for a new cupboard with a display, take your measurements with you, or have them right by your side when shopping online for quick reference. Bring along a family member for input to help you make a better decision. When shopping for furniture, remember to not be overwhelmed by the variety of styles and stick with the deciding factors of size, style, and function. You'll be rewarded with a new piece of furniture that you can be just as proud of as your new china.
